September’s Free McCafé Coffee Is Over — What You Missed (And What’s Next)

Offer details are based on McDonald’s UK’s September 2026 promotion. Availability and terms should be checked in the app. Last updated September 2026.

If you enjoyed a free coffee from McDonald’s this month, you caught one of the most generous app offers they’ve run: the September free McCafé deal ended on 30 September. The weekly free drink has now disappeared from the app — here’s a recap of what the offer was and what it was worth.

This was one of McDonald’s UK’s most generous app offers in a while. Across September, app users could claim one free regular McCafé drink every single week — up to four free coffees in total, worth up to £8.76 in savings. Here’s a recap of how the final week worked.

What the deal was

From Tuesday 8 September to Wednesday 30 September 2026, McDonald’s UK gave app users a free regular McCafé coffee each week. The offer appeared in the Rewards & Offers section of the McDonald’s UK app, and claiming it was as simple as selecting the voucher and ordering at a participating restaurant.

The key details:

  • One free regular McCafé drink per week, per customer
  • Up to four free coffees across the month for anyone who claimed every week
  • Up to £8.76 in total savings, according to McDonald’s
  • App-only — you needed the McDonald’s UK app and an account to take part
  • Weekly vouchers did not roll over, so missing a week meant missing that coffee

Which coffees were included

The deal covered the full classic McCafé range — every one of these was claimable as your free regular drink:

DrinkTypical price
Flat White£2.19
Latte£2.19
Cappuccino£2.19
White Coffee£1.79
Americano£1.79
Double Espresso£1.59
Single Espresso£1.29

The smartest play, purely on value, was always the £2.19 trio — a flat white, latte or cappuccino saved you the most per cup. Four flat whites across the month is where that £8.76 maximum saving comes from.

How the deal worked

If you had that week’s voucher sitting in your app, here’s how it worked before the midnight deadline:

  1. You opened the McDonald’s UK app and made sure you were signed in.
  2. You headed to the Rewards & Offers (or Deals) section.
  3. You looked for the free McCafé coffee offer — it was listed if you hadn’t claimed that week’s yet.
  4. You selected the offer, chose your drink, and placed your order at a participating restaurant as instructed in the app.

A couple of practical notes: the offer was subject to availability at each restaurant, and terms could vary slightly — you always had to check the voucher’s own terms in the app before travelling. And since weekly vouchers didn’t carry over, anything unclaimed when the clock ran out was gone for good.

The new lighter roast and syrups

The free-coffee month wasn’t just about the giveaway. McDonald’s used September to roll out a new lighter roast across its McCafé range in the UK — a milder cup aimed at drinkers who find the old blend a bit punchy.

Alongside it came new caramel and vanilla syrups, now a permanent part of the menu, so you can sweeten and customise your brew. If you claimed your free coffees earlier in the month, you may have tried the new roast already; the final week’s freebie was a good excuse for one last taste before the deal ended.

What comes next: Merlin attractions deal

The end of free coffee doesn’t mean the app offers dry up. Through the MyMcDonald’s Rewards points scheme, there’s another live deal worth knowing about: 2,000 loyalty points unlocks a buy-one-get-one-half-price ticket offer for Merlin attractions including Thorpe Park, Alton Towers and LEGOLAND — and the same points can take £60 off a Gold or Platinum Merlin annual pass (normally from £139 per person).

That offer runs until 16 October, so there’s still a couple of weeks to use it. We’ll cover it in more detail in a separate post.

Was it worth rushing out for?

Honestly? If the app was on your phone and there was a McDonald’s on your route, absolutely — it was a free £2.19 coffee for about thirty seconds of tapping. If you had to make a special trip, you weighed up the travel cost against the saving. Either way, that final day was the last chance — the voucher expired at midnight.

And if you missed the whole month: don’t be too hard on yourself. McDonald’s has been leaning heavily into app-exclusive deals this year — the free-coffee month, the rebranded “Wrap in the App” offer, points-based rewards — so keeping the app installed (with notifications on) is the best way to catch the next one.
